Gujarat GERC proposes new Tariff for Solar Projects to be installed during July 1, 2015 to March 31, 2018 !

Just couple of days after we wrote in our last blog post that a new solar policy is anticipated and may soon be announced in Gujarat, the Gujarat GERC via a discussion paper has proposed new tariff for solar projects to be commissioned in Gujarat between July 1, 2015 to March 31, 2018.

The proposed Levelized tariff for megawatt-scale and kilowatt-scale photovoltaic systems in Gujarat is :

Some of the other considerations proposed in the discussion paper are :

  • Cross Subsidy Charges : As a promotional measure for solar power, which is still in its nascent stage and not operating under REC mechanism no cross-subsidy surcharges would be levied in case of third-party sale or captive use.
  • Banking : All solar power projects that are commissioned under captive generating mode and not operating under the REC route or third party sale shall be eligible for banking of energy for one month period only.
  • Solar REC Projects : Solar power projects that are set up and operate under the REC route they shall be required to pay the entire transmission and wheeling charges and losses, will be required to pay cross subsidy surcharges & shall not be eligible for banking facility.

The commission have invited comments and suggestions from the interested stake holders by 22nd June 2015. The official discussion paper can be accessed Here.

Meanwhile, we also mentioned in our last blog that there were chances that the state of Maharashtra may come up with its new renewable energy policy which they very recently have announced with plans to achieve an installed renewable energy capacity of 14.4 GW by the end of the next 5 years.  The policy targets an installed solar power capacity of 7.5 GW, wind energy capacity of 5 GW, and biomass-based co-generation capacity of 1 GW by the end of the next 5 years. The policy also envisages an installed capacity of 400 MW of small-scale hydropower, 300 MW of power generation capacity based on agricultural waste, and 200 MW based on industrial waste.

Also below is the list of total state wise solar power projects installed and commissioned in India till May 2015 :

With all the new announcements regarding the proposed new solar tariff in Gujarat, it is likely that the state of Gujarat may very soon announce its new solar policy. Lets see !

Meanwhile till we meet next time with more updates…

Cheers !
